AFI Exhibit

Neiman Marcus had a exhibit of photographs, scripts and costumes from the American Film Institute, so Mom and I headed downtown to see the exhibit. I don't think I had ever been to the famous down town Neiman's store. I really wanted to buy something, anything but I did not. If Gucci was a little less expensive, I might have come home with a new bag.

The store itself is lovely. Lots of marble an gold. The elevator doors were covered with Neiman's labels.

Here are some of my favorites:

Gloria Swanson's fan and travel make up box. Love that the make up box has a clock. The fan has a mirror and fits a tube of lipstick in the end. How convenient!

Several script were on display with lots of pencil notes.

Bob Hope's costume from one of the "Road to...." movies

My favorite part of the Exhibit was a section on Gone with the Wind. This is a story board used in the film A wall of photographs for costume and make up:

But the best were the gowns of Scarlett O'Hara. These are all reproductions made to travel. The originals are too fragil. Vivian Leigh was tiny. This dress was Scarlett's mother's so was created large for Scarlett:

This velvet gown was amazing. Can you see how tiny the waist is?

And the famous "drapes" dress:

The next outfit is NOT part of the exhibit. The suit is a clothing display by Neimans. I thought it looked like Pee Wee Herman!

After the exhibit mom and I had lunch - we had a great day
